My Internet Marketing BIG PICTURE …
Friday, February 15th, 2008It has taken me much longer to write about my Internet marketing BIG PICTURE …
… you probably won’t be surprised that I was busy attending another seminar last month: T. Harv Eker’s Life Directions where nearly 1,000 people attended in Singapore.
Are they lost souls? Absolutely not! These are, in my opinion, one of the finest people around, people who are willing to invest their time, money and effort just to discover their very own mission and vision. But that’s not the topic for this post. If you’re keen, drop me a mail and I’ll do my best to reply to you at roger AT rogerloh DOT com.
So, back to today’s topic: What the heck is really Internet marketing?
When I started two years ago, it was very challenging for me too in the beginning as well as for every newbie unless one is very clear on what they want to do. However, most people are not in business and therefore, though this is an excellent opportunity to reflect on what to do, have difficulty to choose.
Essentially, my Internet Marketing BIG PICTURE is this:
Step #1: Find a niche market to build your online business
Step #2: Take FOCUSED action to get your online business up
Step #3: Continue to tweak and grow your business
Step #4: OPTIONAL (More on this later …)
So, here’s my take on how to choose your niche:
- Identify 5 to 10 passions
- Identify 5 to 10 things you’re good at
- Ask a few friends to tell you what you’re good at
From there, you can boil down to the 1 to 2 things that you really want to zero in … and then that’s when you need more research online and offline.
For online research, you can go to:
- Amazon
- eBay
- www.magazines.com
- forums
- Google groups
Basically, you want to check out what problems people are facing. Once you know their problems, it’s easy to offer them solutions (disguised as products).
For offline research, go to the book stores as well as the local library. There are tons of information to be found.
The next thing is to do keyword research to confirm that there is demand for what you want to offer. Use these free tools offered by WordTracker and Google Adwords respectively:
1) http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com
2) https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
It will give you an indication of the demand for your niche.
You also need to research for the competition by going to the search engines and checking out a few things like:
1) How many websites are offering this information? And how much FREE information are offered? If too much
of this are FREE online, how can you sell at a profit?
2) How many competitors are advertising Google AdWords? This will give an idea of how profitable your niche is.
I hope the above can help you to decide on what you want to do as soon as possible. This is a very important stage and if you don’t do this quickly, you’ll be stuck. It’s better to get started … this is what I learn from a powerful speaker:
“Sometimes, we have to jump first and then grow our wings down!”
Once you’ve selected your niche, it’s time to move on to Step #2:
You can start blogging and better still, build your list! The list takes time to build, so the earlier you start, the more profits you will make sooner. That’s one of the key secrets of the gurus - having a responsive and big list.
While building your list, you can now focus on what business model to choose – affiliate marketing or information publishing, for instance. Or even Internet MLM!
And of course, you can create your own product like e-book, e-course, teleseminar or even videos. Talk is easy and talk is cheap, these things take time to build. And, do remember that you’re building a business, not just a web site. That, to me, is very key as many Internet marketing newbies simply give up by blogging for a while, or building a few web pages!
Oh yes, I almost forgot … one last thing – IMPORTANT!
When I was new to this, I figured out something that changed my paradigm forever as far as niche selection is concerned.
Here’s the SECRET to Step #4:
*** You can choose MORE THAN ONE niche!
I hope you’ve got an AHA moment there.
When I realized that, I have no issue choosing say dog training, get started on it, then 6 months or a year later, choose another niche, say dating and work on it. Now I have 2 businesses. So, step #4 will be:
Step #4: OPTIONAL - Repeat steps #1 to #3
The idea is to choose something, work on it till you see some results … and of course, you continue building since it is a business! And then, you can choose another niche if you want. Nobody said that we must stop at one. And that paradigm shift had helped me went over this first challenge. But still, you must finish step #3 before going on to step #4.
Let me repeat my 4 steps that describe my Internet Marketing BIG PICTURE here:
Step #1: Find a niche market to build your online business
Step #2: Take FOCUSED action to get your online business up
Step #3: Continue to tweak and grow your business
Step #4: OPTIONAL - Repeat steps #1 to #3
(If you need help getting started, do check out our coaching classes for newbies http://rogerloh-recommends.com/bis.)
Talking about multiple streams of income, personally, I’ve done that for TWO niches (and currently into my third niche):
1) Internet Network marketing niche:

2) Easy e-Series, a portal style niche:
I wish you success in finding your own niche and BIG PICTURE and do leave me any comments here!
